Apple Moves Closer to Simplified User Purchases

On Tuesday, Apple Inc. quietly rolled out a purchase migration feature, allowing users to consolidate purchases made on a secondary account into their primary one.

What Happened: The change was detailed in a newly published support document, which outlines the exact process and requirements for migrating purchases.

Who Can Use It: The feature is not available to users in the EU, U.K., or India. Family Sharing must be turned off. The primary account must have made at least one purchase or download for migration to be possible. For users who meet all the required conditions, the “Migrate Purchases” option will appear in the device settings.

How To Migrate Purchases

Step II: Select “Media & Purchases”

Step III: Tap “View Account” and sign in if required

Step IV: Scroll down and select “Migrate Purchases”

Why It Matters: The feature is designed for users who have been using separate Apple Accounts for different services—such as one for iCloud and another for buying apps, media, and subscriptions.

While Apple’s Family Sharing has long allowed purchases to be shared among different accounts, this new feature lets users fully transfer their purchased content to a single Apple Account, eliminating the need to manage multiple Apple IDs for purchases.

Users have long been waiting for this feature.

In the category of I thought this would never, ever happen: Apple is finally. Yes, finally, allowing users to (kind-of) merge their Apple IDs. https://t.co/oXsX46vqZP

The move also comes as Apple continues refining its Apple Account system, rebranding it from Apple ID to “Apple Account” with iOS 18.
