Elon Musk, Tesla’s CEO, recently took the stage with the British Prime Minister to discuss the potential risks of artificial intelligence (AI). Musk, who has long been vocal about his concerns regarding AI, suggested that a powerful AI digital assistant might soon be integrated into Tesla vehicles.
Despite the potential risks, investors should not dismiss Tesla. The company’s vehicles already boast advanced technology, such as driver assistance systems that adjust speed to prevent accidents. Other impressive features include automated lights and windshield wipers, keyless entry and exit, and the ability to monitor the vehicle remotely due to constant internet connectivity.
The addition of a sophisticated AI could revolutionize the automotive industry. However, Musk has repeatedly warned about the dangers of AI, even going so far as to say it could be more dangerous than nuclear weapons.
In March, Musk and a group of academics and tech leaders called for a six-month halt in AI development. They urged governments to establish regulatory frameworks to manage the potential risks. The Future of Life Institute’s open letter questioned the wisdom of allowing AI to spread misinformation or automate all jobs, leading to a future where humans lose control of civilization.
Musk reiterated these concerns during his recent discussion with British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. He claimed that AI is on the brink of surpassing human intelligence, likening it to a magic genie without a three-wish limit. This could lead to devastating unintended consequences, Musk warned.
He told the Prime Minister that a world where AI can do everything humans can would be dangerous, as humans would become obsolete and struggle to find meaning in life. Despite these warnings, Musk remains committed to integrating AI into Tesla vehicles, a move that could significantly impact the automotive industry.
